  Sorry, I hit enter after typing the title.

  I've been noticing a tendency of people to giving as much of their business to fellow believers as possible. One lady on the radio said she would not use a home improvement contractor that was not Catholic. I find this interesting as I had always naturally assumed this was exclusively a JW trait.

  This means there must be at least a few out there who stay affiliated with a religion for the business perks. Seems to me that they would also hire from within the church as well whenever possible. Even the beggars around here tend to church up their signs to try and join the club.

  Has anyone ever known of someone admitting to this? I'm considering pasting a Jesus fishy to my resume to increase my odds.

  How come people with the least means of supporting themselves ''Pioneer'' ?

  my cousin told me last week that for the month of february she was ''pioneering''.

  here is a person who was divorced 2 years ago and had to move in with her mom because she can't afford to live on her own .she only works 4 days a week.

  she pays $600 every 2 months for health insurance because she is self-employed.

  Those who can...do, those who can't...preach.

  People that have carved out a good life generally have enough self worth that they don't need to piosneer to soothe the ego and gain JW points.

  A good looking, financially secure JW will always have plenty of friends as long as he generally follows the rules.

  If you don't have the above, then pioneering is the way to up your position in JW land, and give you an excuse for your lack of worldly accomplishment.

  Why do elders offer to "study" with witnesses?

  has anybody else ever experienced this?

  when you get into a bit of trouble in the congregation or have certain questions/doubts over teachings and they want to study with you all over again?

  you could have been a witness your whole life, know the bible teach/live forever/knowledge book front to back, even have studied with others and brought them into the religion - and the elder sitting across from you wants to know if a bible study would help you.

  One of the hoops I had to jump through after reinstatement was having a study under the wing of the PO's 19-year old son. Uggh. The reinstatement process is just a gauntlet of ego smashing devices, a kind of refining process to sift out all but the most malleable and/or desperate souls. Talk about an easy "study"-- the student already knows all the answers and has already demonstrated that he will do anything to realign with the congregation! Read the paragraphs one by one, ask the questions at the bottom of the page, the student paraphrases a section of what was read seconds earlier, maybe look up the included verses, and so forth for an hour. It's an appallingly easy way to be able to fill in that holy grail of service report sections---the Bible Study. You know the elders don't hand those out to just anybody.

  JW's and Woodstock

  how many of you have gone out and bought our rented woodstock?

  many people were unable to engage in the freedoms of the time - some because of religion, others because they may have been fighting a war or perhaps because they did not feel a part of the movement.

  my older siblings were part of those hippie style movements so i remember them well - i'm going to pick up the disks for sammie to watch.

  I love hippies. Without the JW / Fundamentalist blinders on, it is obvious that true hippies are in a real "spiritual paradise", closer to God than most religionists could even imagine. I truly believe that some Woodstock attendees and those of like mind are ushering in a new age of humanity in which love, generosity, and kindness will conquer fear and greed. The old ways have run their course. It is only a matter of time now before love's light illuminates the darkness for all. "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."

  Very interesting read, Terri. I for one am ecstatic to see this happening before our eyes. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end and not just another adjustment. The sooner we have global enlightenment, combined with elimination of the elite class of slavemasters, the better.

  scientists discover that eyes really are 'the window to the soul'left: distinct contraction furrows (marked '3') - a sign of the person being neurotic.

  right: numerous 'crypts' lines going away from the iris (marked '1') - this signifies a warm-hearted and trustworthy person.

  the eyes really are a window to the soul, according to scientists.. patterns in the iris can give an indication of whether we are warm and trusting or neurotic and impulsive, research has found.. everyone has a different structure of lines, dots and colours in their iris.. so scientists at orebro university in sweden compared the eyes of 428 subjects with their personality traits to see if these structures in the iris reflected their characters.. they focused on patterns in crypts - threads which radiate from the pupil - and contraction furrows - lines curving around the outer edge - which are formed when the pupils dilate.. their findings showed those with denselypacked crypts are more warmhearted, tender, trusting, and likely to sympathise with others.

  Mr. Flipper & Son Hear, See, and Get Footprints of Bigfoot on Pack Trip

  so, the long awaited trip began for my son and i to return to the same place he heard a bigfoot a year ago in the forests of northern california.

  the trip started out unfortunately for us to be a 7 mile hike instead of a 2 to 3 mile hike in to our base camp , as huge snow drifts covered the road , making it even inaccessible for 4 wheel drive, so , with packs on backs we hiked over 50 ft long snow drifts on places on the trail.

  even snow was covering one creek near the lake we were destined for .

  Gonna Be Authentic to My Witness Relatives - Send Pictures - Hell With It

  i've decided i'm gonna let the chips fall where they may.

  i feel it's part of my growth here on jwd and how some of you have taught me to stand up , and be authentic towards my relatives !

  don't worry, i'm not losing my mind - but since some of my witness relatives accept my wife and i since our marriage ( my parents) , yet a couple of my siblings waffle somewhat anyway ( my older ex-bethel brother and ex-gilead sister ) and are sitting on the fence towards me as a fader - i figured i'd just send pictures of my wife and my wedding to them, my parents, and my nieces and nephews as well !

  Bravo, Flipper! It sounds like it is definitely the right choice for you, and it is good for your witness relatives, whether they know it or not. I will say, though, not to invest too much of yourself in their reaction. The main thing is that you are doing this as part of YOUR journey out, you are putting your best foot forward into unsure territory, and you are showing love for your relatives. Congratulations.
